The Ice Giants
To mark the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (2025), I took part in an initiative by Forte di Bard, the museum complex in Aosta Valley that houses the stunning “Museo delle Alpi” (a must-visit if you’re in the area!). I conceptualized and designed an interactive experience showcasing the dramatic changes in Europe’s seven largest glaciers over recent decades.
Even these massive ice giants are feeling the impact of climate change. I used data from the World Glacier Monitoring Service and images from NASA’s Visible Earth, the European Space Agency, and Wikimedia Commons to illustrate this transformation through:
- a clear, accessible summary of each glacier and its recent changes
- a slider comparing past and present images
- a bar graph showing average annual changes in glacier thickness over time
Designed for museum panels, the project targets adults as well as primary and secondary school students, using the metaphor of glaciers as “ice giants” to better engage younger audiences. From the main screen, visitors can explore detailed cards for each glacier, backed by accurate and trustworthy data.
I also created an Instagram carousel and a short video demo to preview and promote the project.
